About Deb

I work with each student to understand your needs and develop a plan to guide you to successfully completing your projects. Do you need help with essays, term papers, or building confidence by developing writing skills? I can coach you to strengthen your written communication skills.

I enjoy helping students understand the process of writing. Often writing is seen as a necessary chore. Students hate writing assignments because they are vague and time consuming. With my writing process method; I break down writing projects into manageable steps.

This reduces anxiety and leads to a better understanding of the task. I give students the tools needed for success.

I have a Master's degree in English and taught on the Middle and High School levels. I am a tenured teacher and hold licenses to teach both levels. I have an MBA and a background as a technical writer.

With over 10 years experience in both academia and business; I can help take the anxiety out of writing.

I had great teachers and enjoy learning. I knew at an early age that teaching was what I wanted to do with my life. I did student teaching my last semester in college and thought it was the best course work and experience ever.

I have a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English, a Master of Arts in English with a concentration in Secondary Education. I am licensed to teach middle and high school English. I was granted tenure, meaning permanent or lifetime employment as a teacher after only three years. A teacher has to pass milestones and years of observation to gain tenure. I have experience teaching all levels of students. I also hold an Master's in Business Administration with a concentration in Information Technology.

I have experience in the classroom and in the corporate sector. So, I understand the theoretical side of language as well as the practical application.

About the lesson

I work to understand where a student is functionally. I conduct an assessment based on conversations, review of schoolwork, past reports from teachers or by contacting the student’s teacher.

By using a variety of tools and techniques; I’m able to gain insight to the student’s growth areas. Through individualized activities each student is able to demonstrate his advancement in developmental skills.

I have worked with students who were English Language learners, some who disliked reading and wanted to stengthen their comprehension; as well as advanced students who wanted to learn techniques used in different writing styles.

I would advise the student to find a teacher who can explain things well and that you can hold a conversation with and feel comfortable.

I worked with a student who had to read Shakespeare and couldn't relate to the language. I explained the storyline and then some of the language. Then i started reading out loud with expression. Soon he was laughing and getting the jokes because he understood the language. It was great to see someone go from; I hate it to it's not as bad as I thought. :-)

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should think about what they would like to be able to do better after working with an individual teacher. This will give the teacher an understanding of what is important to the student.
