About Debbie
I have experience working with students with test anxiety, poor organizational skills, ADD, ADHD, depression, low self esteem, kids going hard times like their parents getting a divorce and more. I tutor all ages, K through 12. I take a holistic approach in teaching by helping students not only succeed in school,but also to believe in themselves. For older kids, i try to have the student complete their homework while they are with me. For younger kids, I help them with reading comprehension, writing and basic math skills. I also teach handwriting!
I LOVE to help students grow and succeed. I have the heart of both a teacher and cheerleader. To assist kids achieve their full potential brings me much joy!
I have BS and MS degrees in Education. I received my undergraduate degree from UNL and graduate degree from Cornell University. I have been a substitute teacher and tutor for numerous years!

First I find out from the parents what are the specific struggles of their student, what the parents’ expectations are for tutoring, how the child learns best and what makes their child “tick”. I try to customize the tutoring as much as possible so I reach the child which enables me to better teach the child. Then I try to more learn about the class in which the child is struggling. If possible, I love to see the actual textbook for the class , teacher’s website, syllabus for the class if one exists so I can also better understand the teacher’s expectations of the student and the curriculum and work involved. In brief, I love to learn more about the expectations of the parents, teachers and student.
