About Elizabeth

I began teaching when I was in high school, by teaching group lessons for beginner high school students. In college and post-grad, I continued to teach private lessons, mainly working with elementary school students, including preparing them for NYSSMA solo evaluations.

I have a degree in Flute Performance from Hofstra University. I have been playing the flute for thirteen years, and teaching for 6. I have experience working with students of different ages/levels of ability.

I incorporate aspects of music theory and music history to provide a thorough education. Additionally, I strongly focus on preventing posture and playing habits that can lead to back and shoulder pain, as well as carpal tunnel or tendonitis.

About the lesson

When I meet a new student, I like to sit down with a parent/guardian to first discuss the student's goals for taking lessons, and for me to become acquainted with their musical background so far. I will answer any questions, and then I'll hear the student play something they've already worked on, maybe in school or on their own. This gives me a chance to hear them play something they're comfortable with. I will take notes throughout this time so I can alter my own curriculum for their needs.

These are a few questions a student can think about if they have a chance. I ask these and a few other follow up questions when we meet in person. (there are no wrong answers here!)

Details

The first lesson will always be free as a trial lesson. This is so myself, the student, and a parent/guardian can get to know each other and discuss the students' goals and reasons for taking lessons. My standard pricing is $25 for a half hour lesson and $50 for an hour-long lesson. However, if that is not feasible for your family, I strongly encourage you to inquire about a quote and I'm happy to work something out with you.
