About Dani
As a student of the arts for 19 years, I've learned that the best way to learn an instrument is through dedication and private lessons. I started taking group flute lessons at the age of 9 in my elementary school. I admit, I was pretty bad and hated practicing, so there was little to no improvement. It wasn't until I was involved in an after school music program called Signature Music that I began to see and hear change. The program made a point to cater to my time and individual learning style so that I could succeed and it made me the person I am today.
I worked one on one with a teacher once a week after school all the way until I graduated high school. All the while, participating in my school's concert band and as well as Signature Music's concert band. As I improved, I even started to pick up secondary instruments and joined other musical groups. I played bass guitar for high school and Signature Music's jazz band, I took a world drumming/dancing class, sang in my high school and the program's choir and vocal jazz group. I even learned bassoon and started participating professionally in a local orchestra and started singing professionally in a jazz combo.
Eventually I graduated High school and decided to study voice at Onondaga Community College. While studying, I realized that I wasn't enjoying the idea of studying music like I used to (it happens to the best of us). Everything became about textbooks and cramming for tests, but I still had music within me and all this knowledge that I wanted to share. So I began working exclusively with students of Signature Music, helping them read music, sight read, and learn their instrument. I also participated as a camp counselor for their summer band camp on Ithaca College campus teaching bassoon lessons.
Although I can't give you a full concert band to play in or a choir to sing in, what I can offer you is a safe place to study your instrument. A place where you will be free to make mistakes and correct them, all while in a judgement free zone. A place where the lessons will be tailored to your specific needs and not the needs of group so that one day when you advance in your skill level, you WILL be able to participate in that community concert band or jazz band.
Contact me now to start your beginner and intermediate lessons. During these lessons you can expect to learn proper embrochure, hand placement, posture, music notation, rhythm and sight reading. During the first lesson I will get to know your level of playing and will create a lesson tailored to your needs with suggested learning material for lessons to come. I think what I love the most about my work is that feeling of watching a student succeed. Watching them go from not fully understanding to having a full-on understanding. Seeing and hearing the improvement is such a joyous occasion.
As an instructor, you know that learning a new instrument and sticking to it isn't for everyone. For the ones who stick through it no matter how tough it gets, it's a real treat to see how far they will go and where they will take it.
