Based on my experience as a teacher in a private school, the method that is useful to attract students as well as make students like the subjects is i provides a key point which is based on my understanding of that subjects in a very easy way. In other words, i will help student understand the way i understand the topics.
Basically, for a theory subject i will tell the subject as a story and then just give an important key point to make a full understanding of that topic. After that, i will ask students to make their own mind map based on what their understand from my story in the class. In this way, i will know as much as the student's understanding.
For calculation subject, i always make a group quiz after the explanation and examples. In this way, they will help each other to do that questions at the same time can help other student who is not really understand.
