About Vanessa

I am very passionate about working with youths to expand their knowledge and explore their passions. I am patient, understanding & I try my absolute best to accomodate students needs and learning preferences in order for them to get the most out of tutoring.

Learning new material is not always easy for students. It is the process of getting to the understanding of the material that is the most rewarding. Although it is sometimes hard to see students struggle to grasp certain concepts, it is so rewarding in the end when they are finally able to move forward with newfound knowledge & a solid understanding of a subject.

I first started volunteering for Youth Summer Camps in 2017. I worked with kids aged 10-14 and taught a variety of workshops that included arts & crafts and various outdoor activities which sparked my love of working with youths. My first formal teaching job began this year (August 2021).

I am currenently an English teaching assistant living in France and working at a secondary and primary school. Growing up I lived in Brussels, Belgium for 5 years which is when I first started learning french and continued it for 10+ years. I minored in French at Towson University and Studied Abroad in Aix-en-Provence, France in 2019.

About the lesson

When working with new students I like to get a solid understanding of their learning process. I try to do my best in accomadating each students needs in order to teach material in a way that is best suitable.

I have worked with a wide range of students from ages 4-14. The children I have worked with also have a wide variety of backgrounds, ethnicities and learning levels.

One piece of advice I would give a student looking to hire a teacher is to choose someone that both challenges them & makes them feel confident. Learning is a complex process but it is up to an educator to make their students feel comfortable and accomodated for.

Recently I did a unit on the fall season/Halloween with my primary students in France. The students love visuals so I played a song that taught vocabularly and numbers. The students loved the song so much & have now memorized it. Whenenver the song comes on the whole class will sing along perfectly. It has truly boosted their confidence and helped their comprehension.
