About Yasmin

Hi!

My name is Yasmin and I am passionate about languages. I am a German American and grew up in Europe. Speaking 6 languages in total, I think it's safe to say, I can share some of my passion with my students.

My philosophy in teaching languages is to reduce the fear of making mistakes - it hinders students from getting to a certain level of fluency. This is not to say that grammar is not important, but languages are after all meant for communication. There is no use in learning the grammar by heart but being unable or too shy to speak.

Learning languages should be fun and just as much about learning about other cultures and traditions.

I have tutored my nephews in German for over 5 years.

Inspiring students and making them curious about more than just the language, but also the culture, the history and the people just makes me happy. My job is complete when I have sparked a child's curiosity bone - because that can get you through some of the less fun parts of learning a language like learning vocabulary by heart...

I love working with kids and taking the fear out of learning languages. Learning a language can open so many doors to new cultures, careers and experiences and sharing this perspective genuinely makes me happy.

I am a German native speaker and have been teaching kids for over 5 years.

About the lesson

I would like to go over the curriculum and see what the expected outcome is. Then I check the language level of my student with a few simple questions and try to find out what his or her main obstacles are.

I also always like to have a short chat with the parents.

I will then develop an estimate of how many hours/weeks the student will need to achieve the goal and a plan for the sessions I would like to schedule.

What is your level of exposure to the language (do you have friends or family that you can speak with every now and then? do you know any TV shows or musicians who sing in the language you want to learn?)

Talk to your teacher and ask them what the goal for the end of the school year is. They will be able to provide you with a list that will help me in providing you with the best help possible.
