About Benny

Since the age of 12 I have been performing music on stage for audiences large and small, in many different genres from hip hop to broadway to mariachi to metal to blues and bluegrass and jazz. There are certain basic concepts in music that once mastered, will enable my students to also be this versatile.

Music allows you to uniquely connect with many different people from every walk of life, from the homeless person on the street corner and the working class stiff, to powerful millionaires and politicians. Used in the right way, Music can heal and empower anyone who partakes!

I started teaching in the Princeton, NJ area back in 2012, and took a break around 2015, now I am ready to get back into sharing my passion for all things music in the Albuquerque, NM area!

I have an Associates Degree from Mercer County Community College in Mercerville, NJ (in the Princeton University area). I have been a working musician playing bass guitar, guitar, and singing for the past 12 years with many different types of organizations. I also have a composition and arranging background, most recently with Army bands and touring acts in Spain. I'm half part classically trained, and half part street trained. Just the way it's supposed to be!

About the lesson

With a new student, we would start with getting familiar with the guitar itself: the parts of a guitar and tunings. Then we would get into the basics of left and right hand technique, using simple and fun chords and ryhthms. Each lesson will build upon the last. There are many ways that music can fit into someones life, and this will be explored as well. As music is an art and comes from the heart, we will always be working on how to be in tune with yourself, how to channel yourself through your instrument and your personal music making, and how to unite people through the power of music. The ancient greek philosopher Plato believed that all education stems from the study of music, and can be used as a tool to improve the community at large through the individuals that make up the community... And while my lessons won't be that stiff and serious, it is where I'm coming from here people!

School age kids, working class men and women, stay at home moms (and dads), and seniors alike. If you can get in front of me with an instrument ready to make some music and willing to learn, I don't care who or what you are we will make music and learn!

If your teacher cannot adapt to your learning style and your personality type, find another one. If you find a teacher who is a nice person, but won't push you to grow, find another one. Performing music comes down to 1: Knowledge and 2: Dexterity. If your teacher cannot or will not address both of these topics, find another one. If your teacher doesn't help you balance the emotional and spiritual aspects of music with the physical acts of making music, find another one. And most importantly, if you're not having fun in your sessions, find another teacher!

Recently, I have been composing more and arranging more for myself and for others and it has been a very challenging yet rewarding experience. I also (pre-pandemic) was working with a handful of music studios in Albuquerque, NM and Ourense, ES as a performer and arranger.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Why do you even want to learn how to play guitar? Or how to make music? Why do you want to learn about what it takes to become a musician? What does the word "Music" mean to you? You know, the basic yet existential questions we all face when holding our axe.
