About Cody

Even if the style of music is something I don't enjoy, or you want to learn a song I've never heard, I'm willing to learn to play any song so that I can teach it to you, and help you nail that sound you want.

I love seeing a student's face light up when something clicks in their brain. When they master a new technique, scale, chord, or lick; or just enjoy themselves playing something that they love. There is nothing quite like the joy that music brings.

I've been playing guitar for 20 years. I took lessons beginning when I was in 4th grade, including private lessons from several teachers over the years, playing guitar in youth worship band and bass in adult praise band, and performing original music at concerts in several bands over the years. I also took guitar classes for one semester in middle school and two years in high school.

About the lesson

First, I assess the progress you've made so far with guitar, by asking certain questions and by having you play for me. If you're just starting, I explain that learning to make music takes real effort, practice, and diligence and that I will only put as much work into it as you do. (Practice!!) Finally, we will discuss what you hope to do with guitar: genres, styles, environments, etc; and if we are a good match, away we go!

If you're looking to play jazz, classical, or canto latinoamericano, please ask for a quote from someone else. I know my way around the fretboard well and i'm a patient teacher, but these are not my areas of expertise. I can teach you rock, metal, blues, folk, and pop.
