I have been taking lesson from Jim for about three years. Prior to this I had tried numerous teach yourself books and DVDs and got nowhere. After just a couple of lessons with Jim I could actually play something ! Jim is a knowledgeable and patient instructor and makes the lessons something to look forward to each week.

Jim is a great teacher. He challenges me and encourages me to become a better player. He is helping me rely less on tablature and to trust my ability to play by improvising. An added bonus is that he is also an amazing luthier. He set up my banjo making a few minor adjustments and replacing the head. He truly saved the day when my banjo was dropped and he repaired it so the crack isn’t even noticeable! I highly recommend Jim as a teacher and luthier!

Jim has been teaching banjo to my 14 year old son for nearly 2 years. Jim is a fabulous teacher. He is always prepared and is very patient with beginners. He makes lessons interesting by including stories and history. He also teaches a bluegrass jam class which my son and I attended that helped us to be able to play with people and not know the songs. Jim’s knowledge and expertise has helped my son become Bluegrass Heritage Foundation Showcase Artist and have an article in Bluegrass Today. Jim is also a Luthier and can help if you need an instrument repaired.
