About Grant
Hello!
My name is Grant and I’ve been helping students grow for over 15 years! How time flies! I started playing music at the age of 9 and have been in love with it ever since, staying active in my local music scene as an instructor, performer, manager, and booking agent. I have also earned a degree in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University for all of the students wishing improve their writing skills!
In addition to freelance work, (weddings, jazz brunch gigs, etc.) I am the lead guitarist for the Funk/R&B band Water Seed and the soul project Honey Made. I attended Indiana University for jazz guitar and have studied under jazz greats Dan Miller, Corey Christiansen, and Oteil Burbridge.
I pride myself in taking a students learning needs and using that as my basis for their specific lesson plan, always on a case-by-case basis, tailored to each individual student. Everyone is at a different waypoint on their path so why would I use a predetermined formula to try and help them, am I right? I am excited to meet and grow with every single one of you, let's learn to love the life we have and let our studies become radiant!
I teach all kinds of disciplines from guitar, mandolin, banjo, and clarinet, to creative writing, meditation, and even astrology. If you have any questions about my teaching methods, skill level in a certain discipline, or anything thing you can think of I would be more than happy to answer you!

Seeing a student catch the bug of a truly enjoyable musical experience!
I began teaching in High School to help students at the Middle School that I attended the previous 3 years to achieve their musical goals and learn the joy of creating music. From there I taught privately, in local music stores, and on the web.
I attended Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University on a scholarship for the Jazz Studies program. I have also been a professional national touring musician for 5 years base in the New Orleans, LA area.

I start out by finding the best way for my new student to learn information. Everybody's different! Some are visual learners, some auditory, etc. and I take the time to assess that and bring it into the way I teach this student.
From there we come up with a few goals (usually in the form of what songs we'd eventually like to play) and learn the specific skills neccessary to get us to our goal.
All ages from 6 on up to 81 (It's never to late to learn!)
Make sure your teacher is personable. There is nothing worse than finding a teacher for yourself that is only interested in hearing themselves talk. As personable questions when you send out requests to ensure that the teacher is able to address your needs before beginning. Even thought its strange to speak to someone over the internet for the first time don't be scared to ask the questions you really want answered!
