About Jared

Hello, my name is Jared and I have been playing guitar for 20 years. As a founding member of the hard rock band J.Rad, I have had the privelage of sharing the stage with many great acts. Some examples are: Scott Stapp (Creed), Joe Bonamassa, Johnny Winter, Rick Derringer, Living Colour, Mountain, Yngwie Malmsteen, George Lynch, Bret Michaels and many others. Eventually my musical studies led me to the Berklee College of Music where I maintained a 4.0 GPA while majoring in guitar performance. I have been teaching people of all ages for 8 years now. Whether you're trying to become a guitar master, or just trying to jam your favorite songs with your friends, I can help you reach your musical goals!

I love seeing people accomplish their goals, and knowing that I helped them to achieve it.

I started teaching when a friend of mine inquired about lessons for his son.

He was aware that not all people that claim to be guitar teachers, are really cut out for the job. I agreed to help my friend out, and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding decisions I ever made! It is a great feeling to help someone make music for the first time.

I have studied with many great guitar teachers over the years, especially during my time at the Berklee College Of Music.  I've also recorded and produced records, two of which I recorded with a grammy nominated producer.  And most importantly, i have been putting my acquired skills to use on stages in front of crowds for over 15 years.

The first thing is always to see how far along the student is on the guitar, unless of course if you're a beginner.  Additionally, it's important to figure out what type of music genres interest you.  Lessons would not be any fun for a student if we worked in genres that don't interest you.  It's also important to get a feel for the students personality, and also to give the student a clear depiction of my own personality.  Lessons should be taken seriously, but should also be something fun and interesting.

I have worked with students of all ages, from 5 years old to adults in their 70's and everything in between. It is equally rewarding regardless of how old you are, and it is never too late to start! So many adults feel like they're too old to start learning, and i love to prove them wrong!! If you practice, you can succeed.

Make sure that the teacher can demonstrate their own abilities, and show you that they are legitimate. That applies to any type of lesson (guitar, singing, tennis, etc).

I recently had an adult student that had never played with other musicians before, play a full song ("The Boys Are Back In Town" by Thin Lizzy)  with a full band. Doing that for the first time is a great feeling. I also recently helped a 7 year old girl write a song using the chords she knows, and seeing her perform the song is incredibly rewarding for me as a teacher, her as a student, and especially for her partents.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It's worth thinking about whether or not you are looking to take lessons as a hobbyist, or to become a professional in the music industry. Both are perectly fine, but here is an example: If you eventually would like to go to college for music, things like music reading, theory, and technique are a major priority. That doesn't mean those things can't be achieved if you're a hobbyist, however the hobbyist might only really be looking to play tunes with friends. But these are the kind of decisions that you can make as you're learning.
