About Andrew
Playing guitar for the past 20+ years has been one of the most powerful forces in my life and it's a skill I am incredibly passionate about sharing. Everyone has the power to discover their inner rock star and I couldn't be more excited to guide you on that journey.
I have a background teaching students both independently and in the classroom and pride myself on crafting a unique plan for each student based upon their strengths, weaknesses, goals and experience level. Let me know if you'd like references!
If you've always wanted to play guitar but never tried, drop me a line. If you've tried to learn in the past but didn't find the success you wanted, I'll figure out what slowed things down and get you over that hump. And if you have experience playing but wish to expand your ability to dominate the fretboard, I'm your guy!
I have been playing guitar for over twenty years and teaching others to play brings me more satisfaction than anything. I am also a veteran music journalist with fourteen years reporting on live events and conducting artist interviews with various print, broadcast and web-based platforms. I know the ins and outs of the music industry from numerous perspectives.

Depending on the age of the student, the first step is to speak with them or their guardian about their goals as a new student, what they're hoping to accomplish, and what experience they may have had that could be helpful.
From there I make a lesson plan based upon what they need to know first in a way that is crafted for every particular student.

Andrew Bruss is a wonderful, engaging guitar teacher, even during a pandemic. My daughter started learning from Andrew remotely in April. Even though we are all suffering from Zoom fatigue, Andrew manages to feel like he’s bypassed the screen and is in the room with my daughter. At first, my shy girl didn’t know how to pickup, hold, or tune her electric guitar. Now she is learning confidently due to Andrew’s passion and knowledge of the guitar.
Andrew has been teaching my teenage daughter guitar for several months, after having taken a break from lessons with different teachers. My daughter said that Andrew is the best teacher that she's ever had - that Andrew is extremely knowledgeable about the guitar and music theory, that he explains things well and makes new concepts and techniques easy to understand and, importantly, that he makes learning the guitar and the lessons fun!
From my perspective as a parent, I can add that Andrew is extremely kind and encouraging and loves connecting with people. His passion for music is inspiring and he is a gifted teacher. He has been able to quickly understand how my daughter learns best and he tailored the lessons to suit her learning style.
I have seen such great progress in my daughter's playing, her enthusiasm and in her confidence since she started lessons with Andrew. She leaves each lesson with a big smile on her face and cant wait for her next lesson!
I highly recommend Andrew as a guitar teacher for any level and for any age.
Andrew has been teaching our 6 year old daughter guitar via Zoom. Her progress has been incredible, and it's really been due to his innate ability to translate fundamental concepts perfectly for a 6 year old's level. He is approachable and good with kids, and keeps them interested in learning more. I'd recommend him to anyone with a kid eager to learn guitar in a laid-back setting.
As someone with very little formal training and close to 30 years of OWNING guitars, with Andrew’s instruction, I can finally say I feel like I’m actually PLAYING guitar. When I used to play in bands, guitar, specifically rhythm, mainly felt like something to put in front of me to hide my awkwardness and shortcomings as a singer. Andrew has helped me find the joy in playing and reignited my songwriting. He’s helped me discover more than just barre chords and helped in providing a clear, concise road map for the guitar neck in a manner one can easily understand. Highly, highly recommend!
