About Kris

My lessons revolve around what my student wants to become as a player. No two students should receive the same lesson. If a student is interested in the curriculum, and fundamentals are presented in a way that is relevant to what the student wants to learn, there is no way the student won't become a great player. The basics of playing guitar and theory behind it may be daunting for a new player, but it can be a fun learning experience if it's related to music they enjoy and want to play.

I love seeing people take interest in the guitar and the variety of music that my students listen to and want to perform. It's interesting teaching an older student who wants to pick up the guitar as a hobby, as well as a younger student who wants to feel like a rockstar, or their personal guitar hero. Although the goals may be different, there is a mutual passion for music between my students and I enjoy helping students recognize their potential.

Since I started playing guitar, I knew it was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Teaching not only opened the opporitunity to show other people the coolest thing in the world, but it also helped me grow as a musician by forcing me to learn music I don't often listen to, or to explain music theory in ways that the average person would understand. These prospects were interesting to me, so I started teaching. Also, I started teaching in high school, and it was a much cooler and beneficial job than working at a grocery store.

I have studied at the Berklee College of Music since September of 2015, as well as with guitar teachers such as Arthur Rotfeld, Tim Miller, Joe Stump, Colin Sapp, & many more. I have also played in bands since 2009, performed for musicians such as Jason Becker, Megadeth, & Victor Wooten, as well as shared the stage with acts such as Holy Grail, Act of Defiance, & Whiplash.

About the lesson

I like to spend the first lesson learning about my student's interests, and what they want to become as a guitar player. The typical response I get from students to the question, "what do you want to learn?" is often either, "I don't know" or "Songs." I spend the first lesson figuring out the music and styles the student appreciates, and then on my own time, I'll find songs by artists they enjoy that help fit the curriculum and that I can implement teaching music theory with, while keeping the student interested.

All ages and all levels.

I usually charge $25 per half hour, $40 per hour if I drive to the student. This is subject to change, please contact me for specific pricing.
