About Richard

I completely work around my student's interests and offer each one their own personilzed courses.

Playing an instrument has been the most rewarding thing I ever gave myself in life. I know that so many people love music but don't think that they could ever learn to play an instrument themselves. Helping people learn how to play and seeing them experience the greatest joy, as I have, makes every lesson a pleasure for me and I cannot ever consider it work, but a privilege.

Ever since 2020, with Covid, playing live was put on an indefinite hiatus. Many people who had never played began to pick up instruments and I saw this as an opportunity to continue to play myself while teaching others how to, as well.

I have been in bands and worked as a roadie for bands in Los Angeles most of my life.

About the lesson

I will ask a new student what kind of music they are interested in learning to play. I will then begin to teach basic finger excercises, chords, and modes relating to the growth of each individual, during which I will begin teaching them parts of a song so they can start playing music right away.

I have worked with beginner to intermediate players who have excelled through practice, along with their passion to continue to learn.

Just be honest with what you want to learn, with what I can help you achieve. Anything is possible. Practice does make perfect but it is always so fun just getting there. Everyday you get a little better and it's rewarding from the beginning, hearing music coming out of yourself, knowing you can actually do it and even keep getting better.

A student asked me to teach him part of a riff from a song he really liked and we worked on it until he had the fingering and timing understood and memorized. The next time I saw him, he learned most of the song except for the solos. I was so proud of him and it made me feel great to be a part of such growth and fulfillment.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Recognize only that you don't have to know anything in the very beginning. I will ask the questions if you don't have any prepared. I will help make you ready for what you want to get out of playing your instrument.
