About Dana

My lessons are tailored for the individual student, taking into consideration his/her personality, tastes in music, and what they wish to accomplish. I am classically trained, but also play by ear. I have been the pianist and music director for New Hope Baptist Church in Denver, NC for over 15 years. I have also played for weddings, and performed with local bands. I offer many performance opportunities for those that are interested. My students are often invited to perform for community events, and to open shows for local bands! I keep it fun and exciting!

I love seeing my students progress, and seeing how music can change their lives. I have seen very shy, quiet students develop into strong, confident, happy young men and women and become amazing performers! It makes me feel like this is exactly what I am supposed to be doing!

I was working in a flower shop that was located next to a music store. Every time I had a break I was running over to the music store. I just couldnt stay away. A lady called the owner asking about piano and guitar lessons for her daughter. He recomended me saying,"I know someone I think would be very good at teaching your daughter!" He gave her my number and thats where it all started! The student's name was Dara Sisterhen. She has gone on to have a very successful music and acting career. I am very happy to be teaching and performing music full time. I am doing what I love!

I started taking piano lessons at a very young age. At age 14, I was hired as pianist for a local church. During middle and high school, I was the pianist for our school chorus class including the Advanced Chorus and Chorus Ensemble. I have been the pianist/music director for New Hope Baptist Church in Denver, NC for 15 years. I have also perfomed with local bands. I have been teaching music for 20 years, and full time for ten years.

My very first student was Dara Sisterhen. She has recently released an EP called "BOOM" with Grammy award winning producer Dave Cobb. Having Dara for my first student gave me a lot of confidence as a teacher and helped me to know this is what I wanted and needed to be doing! I now have many other promising students with incredible talent that I am very proud of!

About the lesson

I like to get to know the student and get an idea of his/ her musical tastes and what they want to accomplish! I encourage them to learn to read music and develop ear teaining skills as well. To be able to sight read fluently and also play by ear makes a very well rounded musician.

Perfect! Dana is a great instructor. She is very laid back but shows that she has expectations for her students as well. Only 4 lessons in and my child has learned a lot without the anxiety of someone looming over her shoulder.

Perfect! It's a very friendly and inviting place. The teachers there are great and spend time with their students. My daughter has already learned so much in a month. We are so happy we found this place. Me and my daughter love it!

Love love this place for lessons & instruments! My daughter started voice lesson here & they were so nice to incorporate guitar lessons with it. My daughter has dainty hands, so the strings were hard on her fingers. Dana had the great idea to restring the whole guitar with light strings. It was ready fast and solved the problem.

My daughter's singing voice is so beautiful now. I originally wanted voice lessons for her because she was very quiet and didn't have a lot of confidence. Now, she is confident and talks a lot. She's really come out of her " shell."

After years of voice & guitar lessons, we added piano lessons. Dana, Toni & staff are great teachers. My daughter plays & sings beautifully.

If you're looking for a place for a well rounded music education for your child or yourself, this is the place.

Dana has them performing at many venues; Camp Dogwood for the blind people, Queens Landing, at huge fairs at Sherrills Ford Elementary School, Sherrills Ford Library and the best one of all, Carawinds. They enjoyed the park afterwards.

I almost forgot band camp in the summer. My daughter enjoys that too. It's a nice group of kids.

I am so happy I signed my daughter up here for lessons. This past Christmas Dana had the children record a Christmas CD. These kids are good! It was awesome to give our family this precious gift.

Dana has men am excellent teacher for voice, guitar, and piano. She works diligently with the student. There has been opportunity outside the classroom for recitals and events. Dana has taught my daughter all three guitar voice and piano working on hearing and sight reading for over 10 years. A great teacher.
