About Joseph

I love music and, in particular the guitar, more than I can possibly describe. I have been playing guitar since 1994, when I was 15 years old. I have been playing in bands for over 20 years, and I have toured the US and Europe extensively, playing venues like the First Ave Mainroom right here in Minneapolis, to the Bataclan in Paris, France. My current band, Muun Bato was named the Best Rock band in City Pages Best Of issue, July 2020, and we were recently signed to record label on the west coast, and distribution deals in the UK, and mainland EU. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with aspiring musicians of all ages. Music is one of human kind's greatest gifts, and I can help you unlock your hidden abilities as a guitarist, and show you a path that will allow you to traverse the vast, magical, and infinite universe of music. Will travel up to 20 miles from my home residence to teach. I am proficient in almost all genres, but specialize in rock, blues, and jazz. I am incredibly patient, and truly want to help spread my knowledge of the guitar to all.

I have been playing guitar for 27 years, and took extensive lesson with a Berkley trained musician, and have worked in guitar stores for years.

About the lesson

I find out their actual music experience, and find out their musical interests, and their goals as guitarist. I then start with the obvious basics, tuning, notes on the fret board, the physical mechanics of actually playing, and then first position, open chords. With an eventual first goal of playing a basic three chord progression. I always use an incredibly patient, and encouraging approach to teaching guitar, while still instilling a genuine work ethic to practicing. I want my students to have fun while they're learning, so I definitely take their mudical interests to heart with my teaching approach.

Students ranging from age 7 to 70.

Practice as much as possible. You'll need to build up hand strength, and the only way to do that is to play as much as possible. But also believe in yourself, and you will be able to become a great guitarist!

Teaching my friends son his first three chord progression, and seeing him light up with excitement, and utter joy and happiness. The boy was suffering from very low self-esteem at the time, and my friend said that after just two months of guitar lessons, he saw a definite, and profound change in his son's demeanor, and confidence. Knowing that sharing my knowledge with someone, had made such an impact on their life, is emensely rewarding.
