So, yes you will learn theory, and practical technique for sure, but most importantly, I will tailor the lesson to fit you, and we'll have a ton of fun doing it!
I have been playing guitar for 24 years, and teaching for 12 years, and I love it!

This is honestly one of the easiest questions to answer that I've ever been asked!
I enjoy teaching guitar because:
a) I have been playing for 24 years, and obviously love it, and
b) I really enjoy the satisfaction that I get out of helping someone get to that 'aha' moment when the 'lightbulb' goes off in them, and things finally start to click and make sense to them, and they are finally able to play something the way that they have always wanted to!
I have obviously been there in the past, and so I can easily understand how profound that sense of joy is!
I took lessons first in 1998, as a beginner for 2 1/2 years, where I was taught the basics and beyond to establish my foundation as a guitar player.
I then spent the next 19 years or so, focusing on the development of my style and sound, still gleaning and learning many things from other players that I have either played with, or watched from afar, but again focusing on my own personal development as a guitarist, songwriter, and artist, writing and recording over 30 of my own original songs in that span!
I then started to become more and more interested in learning more advanced guitar music theory, and in particular jazz harmony.
I reached out to a well known and sought after player, session guitarist, and teacher, from the Nashville area named Guthrie Trapp, and took one lesson from him.
This experience was very eye opening, and served as a sort of springboard which led me to take regular weekly advanced theory lessons from a great guitar player named Peter Scoma, located in the Long Island, NY area.
Peter is still my teacher today, and I have been taking regular Zoom lessons from him for over a year now. He is a great teacher, and I have learned, and still coninue to learn many things from him to this day!
It should be noted that I already taught lessons independently from 2003 to about 2008, teaching mainly beginners during that time.
I had a lot of fun doing that, and it was very rewarding, but now it is even more rewarding as I have sought to learn so much more not only just as a guitar player for my own personal development and gratificaction, but also as a natural biproduct it has started to really help me become even more effective as a guitar teacher, and this is something that I try to get better at every day, as I have started teaching guitar lessons again within the last two years!

Typically I will start out by asking a student what kind of music they love, and some things that they would like to learn.
By allowing students to participate in that process, it allows me to get a sense of what their goals are so that I can more clearly focus on narrowing down the lessons, and tailoring them to their specific needs. I would start out by showing them things such as basic notes, basic chords, open chords, etc. It's amazing how much confidence a student can gain when they learn to implement something as simple as a rock song with a three chord change! Then the fire's lit, and you'll want to learn as much as you can after that. point.
