About Garrett

Our lessons will be much more than simply learning to use your instrument. We will explore music that interests you while discovering the various aspects of being a musician.

I’ve worked with students of many backgrounds and abilities, including students with learning disabilities, ADHD & those on the spectrum. It is my mission that all students feel safe and encouraged at Alberta Street Music School and that we all thrive with genuine support and positivity.

I began teaching a couple of electric bass students while in high school and continued to teach a wide variety of students and instruments ever since.

I earned my Bachelor's of Music degree from Columbia College Chicago in 2010. I have 15 years of professional teaching experience and a lifetime of performances under my belt, everything from Broadway orchestras to international touring with my own band.

About the lesson

One of the first things I like to do is learn about your musical interests and goals. I want to get you playing the music you love the most right away. From there we expand into more specific musical avenues and concepts, music theory, reading, writing, ear training and much more.

I have worked with students of all backgrounds, ages and abilities, including those with learning disabilities, ADHD and Autism. I offer lessons to ages 6 and up.

Start keeping a "song wish list". These can be any pieces of music that catch your attention, whether featuring your instrument of study or not. Once you begin learning to play your favorite music and understanding it more deeply your musical world will be forever changed. Plus its super fun to play with your favorite bands!

While 2020 has been a very challenging year with a lack of musical oportunities, one of my favorite performances of late was a fully orchestrated production of J Dilla's "Donuts" to a sold out theater in Chicago, for our 5th year running.
