About Peter

37 years of professional-level teaching by a University of North Texas graduate. Pete McCann is a NYC-based musician giving lessons in guitar of all styles, music theory, composition, and improvisation. He has taught classes at NYU, New School, City College of New York and the Maine Jazz Camp.

I really enjoy helping beginning students learn a new instrument! It reminds me of how important music can be to a new player. I also love helping established musicians expand their ablities on their instrument.

I started teaching when I was 16 years old at a local music store in my home town of Eau Claire, WI. I have taught private lessons through my entire career as a musician.

I have been a private instructor for 37 years. I recieved a bachelors of music from the University of North Texas, and studied further at the Banff Center for the Arts.

I have taught lessons and classes at NYU, New School, City College of New York and Maine Jazz Camp.

About the lesson

My first lesson with a student begins with finding out what he or she knows about their instrument, whether they had lessons with a previous instructor and if they have any experience on another instrument.

I also inquire if the student has any experience with reading music, and for how long.

I have worked with students at every level, begginer through pre-professional.

It's always a great idea to get lessons when you start a new instrument. It's also great to expand your musical abilities by taking lessons in an area of music that you are not familiar with.

I recently completed a mid-west tour with my jazz quartet. We performed in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan. We did 6 concerts and 4 master classes in one week!

Details

My online fee is $60 for an hour, $45 for 45 minutes and $30 for a half hour lesson. My rates go up by $15 if I have to travel for a lesson. If a student comes to me, the rates stay the same.
