Ok. I ask them to share the current code on which they are working, and then have a zoom meeting to discuss the issue.
I have worked with almost all types of students including college students to working professionals.
I would suggest being very specific and somehow sharing the current code or complete requirements of the project in case he/she needs to do a project.
There was a freelancers meetup I am fond of.
