About Flora
I provide virtual tutoring via Zoom, offering students two or more sessions per week. I work with students on a long term basis (entire school year, multiple school years, etc.)
I primarily work with middle & high school students, either in a specific subject (usually Math or Spanish) or for multiple subjects (also including English, Science, Social Studies, etc.) I work with students on understanding the content, work completion, and overall organization. I support students with managing their time and prioritizing assignments to meet deadlines. I also support with standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, etc).
In middle and high school, one big component is figuring out how different teachers do things. I find it extremely helpful, if agreeable with families, to have access to Google Classroom, Aeries, online textbooks, etc. so that I can help support the student to do their very best.
I have experience working with both neurotypical and neurodivergent students alike. I would be more than happy to discuss your student's needs, and look forward to hearing from you.
I have always enjoyed helping others.
I have a bachelor's degree and I have worked with students one on one, in small groups, and in groups up to 20.

Think about your learning style and what would be most helpful to you.
A recent event I am fond (and proud) of is my own child graduating and receiving their bachelor’s degree.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What is going well? What is challenging? What is a goal for improvement? How long shall this goal be set for?

When our daughter began working with Flora for tutoring in 9th grade, we hoped to find someone who could help her stay on top of her coursework. What we found was so much more than that. Four years later, our daughter is graduating this spring and heading to a highly selective college — and Flora has been a meaningful part of that journey.
From the start, Flora stood out for her reliability and communication. As parents, we never had to wonder what was going on — Flora kept us informed and was always willing to get on a call when we needed to talk through something our daughter was navigating. That kind of partnership with a family is rare and invaluable.
What makes Flora exceptional isn't just her subject matter expertise (her Spanish and Math instruction are outstanding) — it's how she works. She helped our daughter not only understand content but also develop the organizational skills and workflow habits that carried her through four demanding years of high school. Flora picks up new material quickly and adapts to whatever her student needs.
Our daughter put it best: Flora keeps you on track, is easygoing and flexible, fun to talk to, and — perhaps most importantly — never makes you feel bad for getting something wrong. That last quality matters more than people realize. Learning requires feeling safe enough to make mistakes, and Flora creates that environment naturally.
We cannot recommend Flora highly enough. If you're looking for a tutor who will show up consistently, communicate openly, and genuinely invest in your student's growth, Flora is that person.Working with Flora was the best decision I made! Her guidance and expertise helped me gain acceptance to multiple colleges of my choice. The one I attend is a great fit, and I was offered more school-based and outside scholarships than I could even accept! Flora took time to fully understand my goals, interests, and strengths. She helped me develop applications and essays that truly showed who I am and what I'm passionate about. Her insights and tips were invaluable, in particular when it came to identifying scholarships to apply for. If you're looking for a coach who genuinely cares about your success, I highly recommend Flora!
Flora has been tutoring my high school student in Spanish for the past two years. Her ability to explain complex concepts like verb conjugations with clarity and patience has greatly improved my child's understanding and proficiency.
She has supported my student in improving reading comprehension skills. Additionally, she has guided my student in brainstorming and putting together projects.
Flora is always encouraging, provides constructive feedback, and celebrates successes along the way. Flora is an outstanding tutor, and I highly recommend her to anyone seeking Spanish instruction.Flora has tutored my rising senior high school student in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, and Trigonometry. Her understanding of these subjects and her ability to explain them clearly and effectively have significantly boosted my child's comprehension, confidence, and performance. Flora ensures that each concept is fully understood before moving on, and assists with both homework and test preparation. She always goes the extra mile to ensure her students grasp the material thoroughly. I highly recommend her to help with high school math.
I highly recommend Flora as a tutor. She worked with my two high school children in Math and Spanish. My children were able to better understand the material and brought their grades up from D's & C's to B's & A's. She was patient, knowledgeable, and my children felt the tutoring sessions were very helpful. Flora also kept me updated regularly on assignment completion and any studying/work needing to take place between sessions. I am very please with Flora as a tutor!
Flora is an exceptional tutor. She is not only patient and understanding but strives to meet my child where he is at and help him reach his potential through personalized instruction. My son feels very comfortable with Flora and looks forward to their sessions. He has increased confidence in answering questions knowing that it is okay whether his answer is right or wrong. Flora focuses on learning and ensuring that understanding is occurring. She is helping him to flourish and find his love for learning.
I highly recommend Flora as tutor. She helped me improve my math grades and build confidence in my Algebra and Geometry skills during high school. She was available for short or long study periods. We would talk through individual problems where I had got stuck and it helped me pick up on information that I had overlooked. Sometimes we went back through the book chapter to find out which equations were appropriate for the problem that I was working on.
Flora was always very patient and that helped me feel at ease as we worked through my homework or studied for a test. With Flora's tutoring, my confidence grew and I learned to enjoy math =)To whom it may concern,
