About Pedro

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

My name is Pedro Almeida and I have been tutoring high school students for the past 3 years in the area of Mathematics and English in my local high school.

After I took the PSAT and scored a 1490 roughly 2 years, I decided to pass on some of the tricks that helped me do well on the test. Since then, I had 2 years of SAT instruction myself which helped me score a 1550 on the SAT and qualify for the prestigious National Merit Scholars Federal Recognition, earning me a full scholarship in over 30 acredited US Universities. In combination with my last year in dual-enrollment, I plan to graduate with a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering in 2021, 1 year after my high school degree, and continue to save up for Graduate School to continue my research.

As a student who recently took the exam, I feel especially capable of understanding how to approach the exam and how other students typically think. Like most students, I wanted to do well on the exam while still participating in school sports and my own hobbies. I combine simple and effective strategies with core subject lessons to help anyone improve their score. I hope you allow me to help you work towards a fantastic SAT score because I know that, with enough hard work and my test-taking tips, you can also achieve your most ambitious college dreams.

The best part about working with students is watching them develop a love for learning.

In my opinion, a lot of schools around the country employ a negative perception of learning that makes it seem like boring work. From that, students tend to develop a miscronstrued perspective that drives them away from studies. However, I strongly believe that could be changed.

The greatest professors I have had worked not only to instruct on their subject, but also develop their student's love for learning. From interactive activities, to fun projects, to creative teaching techniques, teachers should work on keeping the students engaged such that they want to keep learning.

My favorite part of the work I do is helping students develop that passion so that they can rediscover learning as an essential, fun investment.

Although I have helped students with school topics for over 5 years, the formal teaching began in my freshman year of high school after I finished the quarter with A's in all my classes.

Since then, I began staying after school to help with tutoring services.

I have 2 years of SAT Prep Courses on test-taking skills and content with Practice Tests every 2 weeks. With the practice, I was able to improve my SAT Score by 500 points over the course of 3 years, yielding a 1490 PSAT score and a 1550 SAT score.

In addition to the my SAT Practice, I also have 3 years of tutoring/teaching experience at my local highschool. For the past three years, I have volunteered to instruct students on SAT practice, eventually settling as a Mathematics Teaching Assistant for the Local High School. I am confident that with enough practice and my help, anyone can do well on the SAT.

About the lesson

I always start with a new student by gauging what the student knows. In my years of teaching, I find that most often when students struggle with content, it is because of a lacking foundation in the material.

As such, before proceeding with new content, I like to quickly go through the prerequisites to guarantee their next steps will run smoothly.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
In my opinion, all students should try to understand where they struggle, with SAT test prep especially.

The test has two key components that must be practiced for a good score: Content and Test-Taking.

A student who struggles with content struggles with the prerequisite knowledge used in the exam, including math concepts, grammar concepts, etcs.

On the other hand, a student who struggles with test-taking knows the concepts in the test, but struggles with concepts like time management, reading strategies, narrowing down options, etc.

As such, if a student understands which area/areas they need work on, they can progress a lot faster than those that don't.
