About Nikita

I have been tutoring students at various math levels for about 2 years. They say they learn better with me than their teacher.

I can either conduct streamlined and convinient online sessions (though Discord and online whiteboard) or I can meet the student in person (if both are wearing masks) for authentic tutoring experience.

I analyzed the way I learned all of the concept which helps me break down the information and go in depth on the anticipated difficulties.

Math is about learning the basic rules and then building the connections between various problems in your brain. Seeing that a student starts building those connections and starts solving problems using previous problems instead of just blindly memorizing solutions brings joy to me.

My school was offering to become a tutor during study hall. I took the position because I thought it would be fun even though I didnt get payed.

I took Honors Algebra 2, Honors Geometry, Honors Pre-Calc, AP Calc BC, Multivarible Calulus in high school. Got A in all of those classes.

Took Calc 3 and taking Differential Equations at Purdue right now. Got an A in both.

About the lesson

First of all, I will ask the student about the topic they are working on, so I can be prepared to explain all of the details.

Then I will look at what student already knows. For example, a lot of student understand calculus concept, but their algebra is just bad, so they cannot finish the problems.

I will try to explain the concept to the student in relative terms, so they can apply it to any situtaion. So they are not just memorizing examples.

I have worked with students in Pre-Calc and Calc 1 mainly. However, I can explain Algebra concepts really well.

I would recommend the student to ask about the aproach the tutor takes. I feel like when a tutor just spams a student with examples without actually explaining the concepts, student does not learn very effectively.

We recenlty had a co-op career fair at Purdue. It was a good event because it brings the industry to the students and gives them experience to taking to those professionals.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should try doing some practice problems to see what they do not understand. This will make the teaching session much more effective.
