About Lisa
We cater tutoring to the student's needs. Not all students learn the same way and I focus on finding what works for your particular student. I also try to not only teach the math topic, but make sure the student understands why they are doing each method. This helps them apply their knowledge on tests and quizzes.
I played a lot of sports in high school and many of my teammates struggled with math. I started tutoring them, so they could get their grades up to pass. I started going to school to be a vet and missed helping people understand math, so I switched to math and loved it. Now I love what I do!
I have my B.S. and M.S in mathematics from SMU. I have been tutoring for over 15 years and I have owned a tutoring company for 5 years. I also have a minor in education from SMU.

I usually adapt my process depending on what works for the student, but here is a general overview. I assess where the student is having issues. I then make sure they know what "type"of problem it is and ask them what they know about this type of problem. I then guide them usually the knowledge they already have and adding to it.
I have worked with a diverse set of kids. From students who don't think they are good at math to those who excel and want to get ahead. I have also workex with students who have learning differences such as ADD, dyslexia and dysgraphia.
Find a teacher that you understand and learn well from. Just because someone is a good teacher does not mean everyone can learn from them. Keep looking until you find the person that fits your learning style.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Make sure to work as far as you can and look into the answers before you go for help. Discovering the answers on your own will help you better retain the knowledge. If you cannot find the answer that when you should call for help.
