About Lexi

I am an educator trained to teach K-6 learners of all abilities. I use tools not limited to visual supports, emotional supports, relationality, and momentum building to promote academic gains as well as independence.

I received my educator license from Lesley University in May of 2020. Since I graduated at a time when the pandemic was in full swing, I transitioned right into teaching at a fully virtual school in the fall of the 21-22 school year. I teach English Language Arts and Math to 5-6th grade students with disabilities using data-driven resources based on Common Core State Standards to support students in closing any identifiable learning gaps.

I LOVE being able to see my students grow, both academically and socially! It is the best feeling when my students progress to the point where they no longer "need" me.

I've always loved learning new things and sharing with people. Throughout my lifetime of sharing things with friends, some would say that I explain things really well and that I would be a good teacher! That always made me feel really good, and when I realized that I have a strong passion for inclusion and disability justice, I wanted to instantly merge the two into being an educator for exceptional learners.

Being neurodivergent myself, I've taken a lot of time to learn my own habits, and how I can ask for support or support myself to show up feeling prepared and ready to teach (and learn)!

I've received my educator license for Moderate Disabilities PreK-8 along with a Sheltered English Instruction endorsement. Along with this, I am a Registered Behavior Technician.

Completing these programs has qualified me to work highly efficiently with students who experience executive dysfunction, any type of learning disability, and neurological disabilities like autism. These skills are not simply limited to learners who share the experiences I've mentioned, though! I truly believe that every learner benefits from many modalities when learning content (such as visual supports, tangible objects, interest-driven lessons, etc.) as well as regularly practicing social-emotional skills.

About the lesson

I will always begin by building a connection with a new student. In my opinion, it is so important to get to know the learner's interests, who they are as a person, things they like and/or dislike, as well as what motivates them to challenge themself academically! Because of this, our first session will look more like us chatting conversationally rather than immediately hunkering down to work. After we are familiar with each other I will begin sharing what's expected during a session and how to communicate various needs that could come up during our time together.

I've worked with a diverse set of learners. I've also worked with neurotypical learners when teaching in a full-inclusion setting, but the majority of my experience teaching has been within the disabled (and otherwise marginalized) communities.

I was in a 1:1 Telehealth session with an autistic learner, and they were out of the room getting some movement (and other needs met) by going to the kitchen to get a drink of water. During this time, their mother shared multiple stories of the learner generalizing the skills we practice in our sessions into other settings. She shared that they initiated conversations with other kids and with familiar adults, they shared things they like/dislike and gave reasons, and they used their words instead of their hands when they felt upset. These are a few of the goals that we target during a session, and she is feeling so proud of her child for using these skills elsewhere. This is especially amazing for this learner. They were mumbling a few word approximations when we first started working together a year ago. Hearing about this type of progress brings me so much joy!

I'm very interested in making sure my services are available for kiddos and families from all economic backgrounds. My base range for services is ~$40 an hour. To be mindful of folks in need who cannot afford this price per session, I can offer a sliding scale for my services ranging from $25-40 an hour if requested.
