About Emily

Hello! My name is Emily and I am excited to help you learn. I recently graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. I studied electrical engineering and cognitive science with a minor in biomedical engineering. I have always enjoyed teaching and will continue to tutor on the side as I begin my career. I hope you will give me the opportunity to show you how great learning can be!

I have a bachelor of science in engineering from Case Western Reserve University, where I majored in electrical engineering with a secondary major in cognitive science and a minor in biomedical engineering. Through my education I have taken extensive math and science classes, as well as cognitive science and neuroscience classes. Furthermore, I have spent the last 16 years being a student. I know exactly how frustrating and exciting the process of learning can be.

About the lesson

I am running sessions exclusively online right now due to covid-19. Prior to meeting, you are welcome to email me a description of the topics of interest and any specific goals you have. We will then start with a zoom (or skype) meeting to talk about what you would like to get out of tutoring. This can vary greatly from student to student so it is good to know what will be most helpful to you! We will also discuss your current comfort level with the material. We can work on homework, problem sets, or we can cover learning topics. We can also do a mix of either or all of these. Online learning is made accessible via screen sharing and video chat.

My biggest piece of advice would be to talk to a couple of different possible tutors and don't become discouraged if the first one or two doesn't work out. Find someone whose teaching style works well for you. That might not be easy but it will be worth it.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think it is helpful for a student to think about what they want to get out of tutoring and what learning styles have worked for them in the past, even with other topics. It is also helpful if they can identify things that haven't worked in the past. These are questions most appropriate for older students. For younger students bigger picture questions about what they like and don't like about a topic are helpful.
