About Steve

Because I have taught math for many years I'm able quickly assess the strengths and areas for improvement with my new students.

I love helping my students gain confidence as they learn easily solve problems that used to seem very difficult.

I worked in technology Marketing and Sales for 20 years then changed professions mid-life to become a teacher. For 20 years I taught in a mix of small and large school systems before retiring in 2017.

Helping students gain mastery and achieve self-confidence is what gets me most excited about tutoring!

I have held a Texas Teaching certificate for Secondary Math since 1997. During that time I have also been certified in Technology Applications.

About the lesson

I've found it helps to work on an assignment the student needs to complete soon. Right away I can begin to see strengths as well as areas for improvement.

I like to have the student bring quizzes and tests that have been handed back so we can through them together. I usually contact the students math teacher to get their perspective.

Every semester I work with a mix of students that range from regular ed to PreAP and AP.

You must be willing to be honest about areas of strength and weakness, don't try to fool your tutor, they'll figure it out anyway!

Hire someone who has a lot of classroom teaching experience in the subject - they will know what's expected and they know the curriculum.

I began working with an Algebra 1 student who was failing about half-way through the course. We worked together every week and by the end of the class they made an A!
