Math Teacher

Taught Algebra 1 (Common Core), Algebra 1 Fundamentals, Geometry Regular (Common Core), Geometry Fundamentals, Geometry Honors (Common Core).

Being able to help students become better learners and see their minds spark are what I enjoy most about teaching. I also believe that everyone learns at a different pace & different styles. I love being patient and on the same page as the learners as well as challenging their understandings when I feel that it is safe to throw a little curve ball. Overall, I enjoy being there for my students and being their educational advocates.

It started when I was in high-school. I would volunteer my time to tutor lower grade kids on their algebra homework. I found out that so have a talent in teaching and then I began my journey after high-school in the educational route

I have been a HS math teacher for 5 years, in-home tutor and volunteer tutor for 10 years. Working with students have always been a passion of mine.

About the lesson

1. I would like to see what they are working during the week. It is highly preferred that parents send me the child's worksheets or assignments at least 2 days before the tutorial sessions. This allows me to understand what students may be confused with. I could also offer other worksheet practices.

2. During the first 2 or so sessions, I would work with the students slowly to see where they are atin their understanding of the materials. I also try to assess what types of learners they are (e.g. visual, kinesthetic, auditory, etc) and teach them appropriately.

All kinds! From high-achieving to struggling students with an "F" grade. They managed to pass their math course with a high B or A

You need a tutor who is loving and patient towards you. It would be my honor to be your friend and mentor.

I was helping my friend's kid with elementary math. With just a little bit of personal attention and fun math games, the child became more knowledgeable with the math concepts that made his mind puzzled from before.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before a student raises his/her hand at any random questions that pop up in their heads, they should first attempt the problem themselves or ask a friend for help. Students usually learn better from their peers. Most likely students would run into similar problems. It is good to collaborate with others to find our needs. It also helps us to critically construct our questions to our teachers in a clear and concise manner.
