About Alana

I understand different ways of learning and teaching should be looked at as a conversation between the teacher and a classroom or student. The word conversation is defined as a talk between two or more people, in which new ideas are exchanged.

I am currently at CSU Chico majoring in Natural Sciences to help prepare me for teaching middle school science and math. My favorite subject my whole life has been science, while loving to spend time on math skills for fun, and the reason for this was my teachers. I want to spread this love around.

I started Girl Scouts when I was in the second grade, and am now a lifetime Scout. At my first badge workshop I said I want to be a big kid and lead a workshop, and when I was in high school I led tons of workshops. I have loved every minute I have had leading and inspiring youth. I have also been through multiple camp counseling programs. I was a CIT and Junior Counselor at a private camp in Woodland Hills, CA as a middle and high schooler, and during summers throughout my college career I have been a counselor at other camps. I hope I can inspire other students just like my teachers, counselors, and advisors have inspired me!

About the lesson

The approach I have learned best from is teachers primarily being a guide on the side. When I can use my own brain to figure things out I have better memory of it. However, when a topic is very confusing, visual representations with direct explanations from the teacher really help.

Both teachers and students learn in a classroom, and this occurs through communications between teachers and students. I feel conversations are one of the best ways to learn
