I'd much rather have a kid ask to work with me at a slower rate and pass the class than to have them sit back and not learning anything failing it. I'm more towards the fun route in teaching to try and keep the student's interest as much as possible. If a student is new I usually just put them right into a lesson, but I checking on them frequently. If I need to slow down, if not stop and work with them I will.
