About James

Hello, my name is James Turbett and I am a sophomore mathematics major. My service stands out because you'll get great visualizations of concepts and intuitive explanations. Tutoring math is one of my passions, and I've been tutoring math for 3 years now and running an educational YouTube channel called Vital Sine for the last 2 years.

I will do my best to make lessons interesting and connect the math you have to learn to something you are interested in. I will customize our lessons to fit your learning preferences, for example, if you are a visual learner I will provide plenty of visualizations of the math concepts you want help with.

I enjoy sharing new perspectives on mathematics with other people. I love helping people be more confident in their mathematical abilities and excel in their courses.

In my senior year of high school, I began tutoring other high school students.

I have a high school diploma and am currently a sophomore mathematics major. I have worked as a mathematics research assistant and own a mathematics YouTube channel.

About the lesson

I would start by asking what math course they are looking for help with, and find out a little about their mathematical background and their major or area of study. Then I would ask what specific topics they would like help with, and whether they have a prefered method of learning (starting with problems right away vs. discussing concepts prior to tackling practice problems).

I've worked with high school and university students.

I would advise students to look for a teacher that is passionate about their subject, who has adequate credentials, and who has at least one year of experience in teaching that subject.

Last semester, a student came to me thinking they might not pass their Calculus 2 final exam, but with their effort and our regular lessons, they passed with flying colors, which was rewarding to see.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should gather the problems and concepts that they struggled with most, as well as whether they want the teacher to create new practice problems or not.
