About Jessica

My name is Jessica Spahn. I graduated from Winona State University with a Bachelor of Science in teaching with a minor in middle level mathematics. I also received my Masters of Education from WSU. I’m in my fourth year of teaching. I student taught 3rd grade and taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade linear algebra. I’ve taught 3rd, 5th, and 6th grade language arts and social studies. I have a passion for teaching children. Love to watch them grow as individuals and as learners. When students are struggling understanding something and once that lightbulb turns on in their brains, it’s an unforgettable experience.

As a child, I had amazing teachers that made learning fun and were always supportive of my education. They were the ones who made me decide to go into education and want to watch my students reach their highest potential. In elementary school, I struggled with reading. Then, in third and fifth grade I had the privilege of having a teacher named Ms. Coulson. She helped me find books that were interesting to me and her dedication to helping me improve my skills made me want to become a better learner. She also taught our other subject areas using fun and engaging techniques which helped me grow to love learning. She was an inspiration in my education and her passion for her students made me realize I wanted to be that person for struggling learners someday as well. Teaching is the most rewarding job that one could have. When I see students learning and becoming excited about their experiences in the classroom, it generates a feeling unlike any other. I believe that teaching begins and ends with the students in mind.
