About Barbie

I am a highly- trained educator who is seeking a position as a lead teacher in your school. As you will find in my resume, I have a B.A. in Psychology from the College of Mount St. Vincent with dual teaching certifications in Early Childhood Education Birth-2 and Childhood Education 1-6. I recently received my Masters degree in Early Childhood Special Education Birth-2 in which I graduated with high honors. For the past two years, I have been working asaPara-Professional in District 20 Pre-K Center.

My goal once I obtain a lead teaching role is to meet each and every one of my students needs. I am passionate, dedicated and focused on educating and motivating young children in every way. I am eager to inspire, challenge and help children learn and grow. My main focus is providing children with the learning tools necessary to successfully excel in their education. My constant thrive to grow as an educator by attending professional development workshops, learning from and working together with other educators and being open to expanding my knowledge is what has shaped me to be the unique role model children need. The standard that I live by and always encourage my students to have through out their education journey, especially when they may face a challenge, is to always remain confident and positive in anything you do.

Throughout the course of my career, I have had the opportunity to work with a group of diverse population of students. I am able to differentiate all my lessons/activities to meet every child’s need. I have become confident in designing instructional methods based off of state standards and curriculums that are useful to multiple intelligences. I am able to create lessons that include motivational teaching methods that will allow every student to want to learn. I have become proficient in providing hands on activities for students to be actively involved and engaged in. I have great confidence and belief in that all children can achieve high academically. Through out my masters program I was able to student teach in an Early Intervention afterschool program, as well as work one on one with a third grade student who is on the ASD spectrum with his reading disabilities. This experience has led me to recognize just how important and effective it is to connect and build strong, open student teacher relationships. I have found it effective and necessary to find connections and build trust with each and every one of my students in order for successful learning to occur. I also have found it just as important to build this bond with student’s parents. I make sure to always have a student’s family actively involved in their child’s education through out the year. I have learned how to be flexible through out the school year by adjusting classroom rules/ and routines to enhance student learning, promote positive behavior and create an enriched learning environment. I believe I have the skill set and experience that you are looking for.

I enjoy seeing student growth. I enjoy what I learn myself from the students. I enjoy getting to work with students and their different types of families. I enjoy working with students from all abckgrounds and learning about their heritage/culture. I enjoy listening to students perspective and how they think. I enjoy student imagination and creativity.I enjoy seeing students learn from each other. I enjoy just seeing students feel proud of any progress they make or any success they have.

I have always been interested and passionate working with children. It is something that has always come natural to me and that i succeed in. Ever since I was a young girl I wanted to become a teacher and that stuck with me all the way to when it was time to choose a career when attending college so I decided to majoy in psychology to learn about the brain and people in depth and minored in Education. I currently am taking additional classes to recieve an additonal 3o credits. Some of the courses include teaching Social Emotional Learning, Lesrning all about and incoporating growth minsets in the classroom, Learnijgn ll about mental disabilities and how it affects studet learning, Lerning how to incoporapte social media and improve on virtual teaching and lastly, how to create lessons to meet all students diversely.

I have a bachelors degree in General Education Early Childhood & Grades 1-6. I have my masters degree in Early Childhood Special Education. I have a supplementary degree in Special Education Grades 1-6.I have been a NYC DOE teacher for 3 years. Prior to that I was a para- professional in a DOE UPK school for two years. I have ecperience working as a teacher in a daycare. I have worked as tutor during college in summer and vacation breaks in Kumon. I have privately tutorted children of all ages after school before.

About the lesson

My typical process is I speak with their parent first to understand what the child is in need of help with. I meet the child and get to know the child personally such as finding out their inetrests and just getting to know their personality. Then I usually give the child a simple avtvitiy that allows me to observe for myself their needs. Then I gather my resources and get any resources from their school and'or family they use and that works and we start our journey.

I have work with students from ages 3-14 from all different backgrounds. I have worked with ELL students. I have worked with socially& emotionally distirbed children in a bridge class 12:1:1 ;3-5th graders.I have worked with Gifted & Talented students.I have worked with General Edicated students.

Advice I would give is to learn about that teachers background and find out what they are certified in, speciialize in and what they feel they are great at and what they feel they need more practice in. I would learn a little bit about them personally and maybe even engage in a mini lesson or actvitity with them to see how you connect with them.

A recent event I am fond of is being able to help a kindergartener in my class whoe came to school in late September and was not be able to write or read letters or numbers and/or words and whom is now able to write words, sentences and at least a three page story independently and read on a level D which is expected for them to be on in June.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I think students need to first elarn about themselves and their needs and be able to reflect on their glows and grows and goals and whatever else information they feel a teacher should know when working with them.
