About Catherine
My name is Catherine Smith and I am currently studying Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary Education at Towson University. My dream is to become a math teacher as soon as I graduate. For the time being, I would like to share my appreciation for mathematics and education by tutoring those who need help.
Teaching provides such a special and enriching experience. As teacher, you build a unique and positive relationship with every student willing to learn and try their best. Having the ability to teach others about a subject matter you are passionate about and helping them to understand it and appreciate it is priceless.
My start in teaching is actually unrelated to mathematics. At the age of fifteen, I began teaching Taekwondo, which is Korean martial arts. I've been practicing Taekwondo for ten years now, but teaching Taekwondo made me love it even more. My love for Mathematics and my love for teaching Taekwondo helped me realize what I wanted to pursue for my future: becoming a math teacher.
I am currently studying Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary Education at Towson University. Since I cannot teach in a classroom until I graduate, I thought tutoring would be a great way to practice teaching mathematics before I enter a classroom full time.

We will meet via Skype for a brief orientation, discussing meeting times, what subject matter we will be working on, and any questions the new student may have in general. Students decide on their next appointment time, and we go from there.
As of now I have tutored only friends and younger siblings, but I have had in-classroom experiences, both shadowing teachers and teaching math lessons in 5th grade and GT middle school classrooms.

Details
Orientations are free of charge. Each session slot is 45 minutes, but two in a row may be scheduled for a 90 minute session. Each session (45 min) is $10, and a double session (90 min) is $20.
