About Sara

My patience and understanding with students on top of my excellent tutoring skills and knowledge stands out most from other tutors. I really like to have my students comfortable and feel like they are in a safe and welcoming enviornment. I feel as though my compassion for students and passion for teaching really helps my students prosper.

I truly love when a student finally understands a concept they were struggling so hard with. My favorite moments as a tutor are when it has been hours of us working through problems together for them to finally exclaim "OH! I understand now!" That is the best feeling in the world.

I started by helping out peers in my calulus class in my freshman year of college. Before this, I had tutored purely voluntarily through my high school for kids in lower level classes. I started loving it when I realized how much I could help my friends do better in the classes we were taking together. Ever since then, I have been tutoring.

I have been an independent tutor since 2018, I mostly started by tutoring peers in my math classes or math classes below mine. I did this for two years, getting paid privately. I then just recently got a job through my university as a STEM tutor, with my focus in math based classes.

About the lesson

I like to know what exactly they need to work on before hand so I may prepare myself to teach the student. I like to look at their notes to see how their teachers do problems to make sure I am teaching them the same format as they do in classes. During lessons, I usually have a set way I layout my sessions: I start with setting the focus of the lesson for the day focusing on the key points we need to work on, I then go through problems with the student where I like to guide them through the problems so that they can figure it out for themself for the most part so they are able to solve problems alike it in the future. During the lesson when we are going over problems together, I access how well the student has a concept grasped and let them take more control over solving the problem if they have a better grasp of the concept. I end my sessions with a takeaway, describing what exactly we went over and having the student say it back in a way to help them take away what we did in that lesson.

I mainly work with college students, but I have worked with students grades 7-12 as well. I have separately (not tutored) but taught first through 6 graders dance lessons, although it is not tutoring, I am very experienced in teaching younger kids as well, and I have the math knowledge for their class levels.
