I have my bachelor's in Cellular and molecular biology. I have gone through math up to Calculus II. I have tutored Algebra I&II and Calculus I&II at a college level. I understand the struggle.

Typically I would ask the student how they feel about the subject in general. Whether they find it difficult or confusing or that the work itself is fine but the phrasing is confusing for them. From there I try to work with the student on improving that.
