About Surya

Hi, I'm Surya! I am a full-stack developer, math enthusiast, and sophomore at UC Berkeley majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. I have been a math tutor at Kumon Learning Center for a year and have served as a tutor for computer science, electrical engineering, science, and math courses at UC Berkeley in an EECS Honor Society for the past one year.

Having been a high school student and currently a college student myself, I know that the support that tutoring has to offer can be invaluable to a student's conceptual and applied understanding of math. As a high school student, I was able to develop a knack for self-learning in advanced math courses all the way up through AP Calculus AB (5), AP Calculus BC (5), AP Statistics (5), Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations with a perfect GPA. I was also a two-time American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME) Qualifier, a competition that invites the top ≈ 3,000 math students in the U.S. With scores of 800 on the SAT and SAT Math Level II Subject Tests and 5's on 12 different AP Exams, I hope you trust me with the responsibility of developing your understanding and enthusiasm for mathematics and a variety of other subjects as well!

With my experience, I can help you take your understandng of math to the next level. Whether your goal is to excel in a class, achieve a perfect standardized test score, or qualify for the AIME exam, I can get you there.

I enjoy helping students get the support they need to develop an advanced understanding. Having been a student myself, I recognize the difficulty of finding the right support and environment to learn the most I can, and finding that sweet spot for learning can take years. Helping students get there much quicker is such a gratifying experience because at the end of the day I'll know that I've helped someone reach their sweet spot for learning as well.

I am a student at UC Berkeley in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science program expecting to graduate in May 2023. Playing an active role in the EECS Honor Society at UC Berkeley consisting of the top 25% of students in this selective program, I have tutored difficult computer science, math, physics, and electrical engineering courses throughout college. I have a near-perfect score on the ACT (35), am a two-time American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME) Qualifier, have scored 5's on 12 different AP exams, and have perfect scores on the SAT Math and Physics Subject Tests.

About the lesson

In working with a new student, I want to make sure the student feels confident in my ability to bring value in every session. Above all, I want to make sure the student is confident about strengthening conceptuals and increasing his or her ability to tackle challenging problems in every single session. To make sure this happens, my sessions are a focused 30 minutes or 60 minutes each with a structured gameplan going into each session with homework assigned each week. Homework is the most important part of this because the skills you will develop by putting what you learned in class to practice will help the student become a better problem solver. The homework will be graded, and I will be giving the student detailed feedback in every session.

I want to ensure I bring significant value to the student, so the consultation will be free of cost. I look forward to meeting you and taking you on your learning journey!

I have worked with students across all grade levels and in college in a wide variety of subjects, from math to writing and physics to history across 16 different AP Subjects, SAT, ACT, and the AMC 10/12 exam.
