About Anand
I've been teaching and tutoring for over five decades, and I love to help my students appreciate mathematics and physics and get better grades, scores, and possibilities for future education and careers!
In addition to in-person tutoring, I offer Skype-based tutoring, and it works very well for students who must work with me remotely. I have a tablet and I can share my screen and write problems and solve them with my stylus so you can follow along while we speak.
I really enjoy students' inquisitiveness and desire to learn. I love to see their transformation into confident people who have grasped a subject that previously was challenging to them.
My parents, grandparents, and greatgrandparents (and maybe even further back) were all educators. I have loved science and math since I was a child, and this was driven by my curiosity about the world around me. I grew up with 4 brothers and 4 sisters, and as a middle child I had plenty of younger siblings to begin practicing my teaching and tutoring skills! That was many decades ago. Much later, when I became a professor of Physics, I came to find my professional love for teaching. Since then, I have worked with students of all ages in both math and science subjects.
I have a PhD in Physics. I've been a scientist for 3 decades, and I was a professor before starting my research career and after retiring from it. I have won numerous teaching awards and recognition. I've been a tutor for high school, college, and graduate students for many years. I'm delighted to have so many students succeed in their academic and professional careers. I love to teach!

Baseline: I like to understand what the student's baseline is, how comfortable is the student with the subject matter, what the student's understanding of the subject is, etc.
Objectives Alignment: I ask the student what the objectives are and I help the student set a series of bite-sized objectives toward realization of a larger goal.
Resource Assessment: I ask what textbooks/workbooks/problems the student is working with already or is assigned to complete by a teacher, I ask what calculator the student is using, I ask the student to download Skype and to add me as a contact so that we can get ready for our first session, and I ask the student or the student's parents to add me as a contact on GooglePay so that we can manage mobile payments efficiently.
Orientation: Informally, I like to get to know my students, their personalities and their level of confidence, and then I share a bit of my background in order to help us get started on our work together.
Education: It is really important to me to help students appreciate the bigger picture of science and math while also learning to problem-solve to earn points/scores/grades. I am patient and persistent, and I encourage students to exercise their critical thinking skills. I work with students at all levels, and I encourage them to be patient with themselves as well while also striving to attain their objectives.

I was so anxious about math! My parents wanted me to get better grades but I thought I could only get a B, and even that would take luck! But Dr. Saxena was so kind and so brilliant, and he patiently worked with me and solved problems, and that really made me feel so much more interested and eager to try to get an A-. In the end, I got an A! I could hardly believe it! I thought I might take Econ as an elective this semester but I decided to take Physics since Dr Saxena tutors that, too. So far, I have an A in that class! Dr Saxena really supports STEM and now I do too!
