About

Hello Learners. My name is Ms. Clarke. I am currently a full time Geometry teacher who has been teaching and tutoring students in Pre-algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Common Core Algebra I, Geometry, and Common Core Geometry for over 8 years. In the past I've tutored elementary students in basic arithmetic as well. I currently teach at an awesome charter high school in the Bronx.

As a tutor, I see myself as personal math trainer. I assess your current levels to determine your strengths and weaknesses, set goals with you, teach you the skills needed to learn the most challenging content, practice with you, and push you in your practice until you achieve the goals you've set for yourself. I am a big believer in showing up on time every time, and being ready to get to work immediately. I don't believe in wasting your time. The student who will benefit from my instruction is one who is open-minded about his or her ability to learn with my guidance.

Teaching has been a goal of mine since I was a little girl in 4th grade. I love making math easier for students. I love the "a-ha!!" moment that happens when a child figures out how to solve a very challenging problem. Most of the classes I teach have over 25 students in each, so I typically do not have the opportunity to work one on one with my students. Tutoring provides for that, which I why I really enjoy it. Success is almost inevitable.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Monroe College, I attended St. John's University with a Master's in Special Education. I have been teaching for over 8 years as part of the Teaching Fellows program. I have experience with both public and charter school systems.

About the lesson

I start by assessing a student's mathematic strengths and weaknesses by administering an assessment based on the student's grade level. I then conduct a short personal interview where I learn about the student's past and current feelings about mathematics, get in an in depth understanding of their weak spots, set goals, and determine the best course of action to take (in terms of tutoring frequency). From there, we set a time to meet weekly. I also support students with organization of school materials (notebooks, binders, folders, handouts, etc.) to ensure they are successful in their classrooms.

Details

I charge $50 for a 50 minute session, $45 for a 45 minute session, $30 for a 30 minute session. For Common Core Geometry students I provide a Barron's book. Included in all session is ongoing support in keeping math materials organized (binders, notebooks, folders) as well as homework help.
