About Emilie

I offer a compassionate approach to meditation and see meditation as a natural physiological happening of the mind. Rather than approaching meditation through a sense of striving or making it perfect, this approach to meditation allows the body and mind to naturally sink into this state so that everyday, practical living can begin to improve.

I love connecting to students and helping them to awaken this part of themselves that is already within them. I taught high school for many years and when I would lead guided meditations, I would love the moment a student first came out of a meditation and had an experience of deep peace or transcendence. Their faces seemed to be saying....this is who I am? This peace? There is a sense of wonder and connectedness in that. Having gone through periods of severe depression, I also love it when students who are suffering from anxiety or depression find some relief. It is not a magic cure all for depression or anxiety, but can be a tool in a tool box or a treatment plan.

I learned to meditate in 2004 and it had such an impact on my life that I began organizing workshops for family and friends and soon thereafter began to assist on workshops.

I have been practicing meditation since 2004 and started assisting on courses in 2007. I trained originally in a type of meditation and breathing that came from a yogic tradition and had an Indian teacher. After teaching and going deeply into this tradition, I wanted to learn a practice that people of all different beliefs could connect to. I was trained to teach through Sarah MCLean's meditation institute and loved this training. What I loved about it was that it prepared us to offer meditation instruction in a compassionate way, centered in awareness of the self, gratitude, and self-compassion.

About the lesson

I will generally check and see where a student is in their meditation journey. It may be a totally new experience or it may be that a student has been practicing for quite some time and wants to deepen their practice. I will tailor the class to what the student needs. I am certified to teach a mantra based meditation and can also do guided meditations for students if that is something they desire. Every student is different and will have different needs.

I have worked individually with private clients over the phone, in their homes and in hospice settings. I have lead group sessions in public schools, on college campuses and for brown bag lunches. I have also led weekly meditation sessions out of my home and on college campuses. I have also worked with children and teens on a camp setting.

I recently lead meditations for my high school juniors and seniors. I remember one high school football player going very deep into the experience and releasing emotional stress. This was unexpected, but very beautiful to watch.
