About Geoffrey
I have a Ph. D in musicology and more than 25 years experience providing excellent lessons in piano and music theory to students of all ages. I teach a classical foundation in technique with a real emphasis on developing the ear so that students can play what they hear as well as what they read. My students study repertoire in different styles, from the classical masters through jazz, film and video game music.
I prepare students for exams through the Royal Conservatory in Canada and the US, and through ABRSM. I also prepare students for festivals and competitions if they are interested and willing to make the commitment. Most of my students are not planning on professional careers in music, but want to develop serious skills for a lifetime of musical enjoyment.
Helping students to realize their musical goals is so rewarding, especially when you show them that they can accomplish more than they ever dreamed possible with a little work and dedication. Studying music, making music makes us more fully human, and it's an amazing feeling when I see that awakening in my students.
I have a Ph. D in Music from The University of British Columbia and a Bachelor's in Music from The University of Calgary, including advanced piano studies with Charles Foreman.
