About Margo
I am passionate about Music Theory and I love teaching it to high school and college students. I enjoy tailoring the lessons according to your level of understanding and style of learning. I have a Master's degree in Music Theory from the University of Denver. I was a tutor for Music Theory at the college level for five years before becoming a professor of Music Theory for three years at Colorado Christian University. I work with students to bring about an understanding of Theory concepts and how it applies to their own music. I can help students with homework, test preparation, and for the entrance exam into undergraduate and graduate school.
I love talking Music Theory with anyone who will listen. But, I especially enjoy working with students who are having trouble grasping Music Theory concepts. Many times, a Theory topic just needs to be explained in a different way. I really like tutoring, because it allows me to teach someone in the best way for them. I can make the lessons more visual, or more aural. I can tailor it to the instrument that they play so that it makes more sense to them. I can also focus on their specific needs to reach reach their desired goals.

I typically start out by getting to know the student in order to discover their learning style (e.g. learns music by ear, likes to sightread, is visual/auditory, etc.) Then, I find out what their goals are (get through Music Theory I-IV, pass a final exam, pass an entrance exam to grad school, etc.) I also will dig a little deeper to find out specific topics they are struggling with, and where any knowledge gaps may be.

Margo was extremely helpful and made all four levels of music theory make much more sense.
During college Margo was my theory I and II tutor. I truly couldn't have made it through these courses without her. Music Theory is not something that comes naturally to me, and Margo was always patient, kind, and helped to make the terms understandable. I never felt rushed to understand a concept with her - and always felt like she genuinely wanted to help me understand and grasp the concepts no matter how long it took. She is so passionate about this subject that it helped me like it more as well. I would highly recommend her!
