About Josh

After spending years studying with some of the best teachers around the world, I am excited to share my knowledge with the next generation of clarinetists!

I have been teaching for over 5 years, and love working with students to reach their clariet dreams! Just over a year ago I started my company, QuickStart Clarinet, as a one stop shop for all clarinet needs from equipment, free tips and tricks, to in-depth courses on how to play properly.

You see, playing the clarinet is simple if you have the knowledge on how to do it. That is the knowledge that I have shared with my students who have found great success getting accepted into their top choice colleges, playing in honor bands, and having fun making music!

As a teacher, I love helping students master the fundamentals, but even more important than that, I love helping students have fun, find their joy on the instrument, and accomplish their unique goals!

My favorite thing is seeing when students understand something, whether it is a small change that they get right away or something that we have been struggling with for a while, there is nothing more beautiful than when it final clicks and there is suddenly a massive improvement!

About the lesson

Send me a message to schedule our first lesson where we will get to know each other. After I know a bit about your playing, I typically make a custom warm-up sheet for each student to narrow in on mastering the fundamentals.

From there, I give the student a lot of freedom as to what we work on, whether it is help with band music, fun pop or jazz, or more serious etudes and excerpts. Whatever makes the most sense to help you reach your goals!

I have worked with all ages and skill levels. I am an expert at fixing bad habits or any frustrations students are having, but I also love being able to get a beginner started right!

Be sure to have a goal for your lessons, and practice diligently. Lessons are a decent time and money commitment. If you aren't serious about learning and working on what you are being taught, it will likely be a waste of money. That being said, don't be afraid to tell the teacher exactly what you want to be working on. If you are interested in jazz, then of course you won't be dedicated to practicing classical etudes your teacher assigns.
