About Deborah
I have been a professional oboist, teacher and musician contractor for 35 years. I have started many concert series including my newest endeavor Rendezvous Arts. I also was the founding member of the Metropolis Oboe Quartet (oboe and strings). I have played orchestra, Broadway, chamber music and even rock shows! I teach at 3 colleges and also privately. Since my career in music is so diverse I teach my students not only how to play the oboe with beautiful sounds, easy technique and musicality - but I also teach them to consider all the things in life that they enjoy and how turn them into a career as varied and satisfying as my own! My students have gone on to major music schools and professional orchestras. My degrees in oboe and English horn come from Northwestern, Boston and Northern Illinois Universities - my teachers include Ray Still, Grover Schiltz, Larry Thorstenburg and Marion Gibson.

I went to 4 colleges in oboe performance! I received my undergraduate degree at Northern Illinois University. I did graduate work in English horn at Boston University. I got a masters degree at Northwestern University. My teachers include Ray Still, Grover Schiltz, Larry Thorstenburg and Marion Gibson.

I teach hour lessons - which goes by fast when we are talking oboe!!! Each wee We start with reed making and scales. Then we sight read a duet together so my students match my air and energy. Then it's etude and solo time!! In my lessons we work hard - but we also laugh a lot - I feel a happy oboist is the best oboist! I teach my students how to make the oboe easy and fun!
