About Mariah

I started teaching because I posted progress pictures on Facebook. People love art and they seem to love the process. Then the audience grew and requests were made to teach. Currently, I am learning how to edit videos to make online courses.

I have an art minor, for the last 3 years I have been mostly full time art making & the last year I have been teaching. I sell my art mostly online and currently not gallery represented. This is a future goal that I hope to achieve.

About the lesson

Asking them where they are as a creative, i.e. experience, medium, comfort level etc. Then I would to know what they are looking for. Just one class to see if they like it. Or are they looking for more information to further their own art process.

All age ranges and I teach free classes to developmentally disabled at a school in my town.

Be kind to yourself and let the idea of perfect brush strokes go. It's paint and it's the journey that's the most exciting. The finished product is the reminder of what you've gone through.

Well, covid kind of placed a damper on the events. There are some interactive art exhibits that spring up during the last year that were incredible.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Take some time to think about what you are interested in painting. Ask the instructor if they feel comfortable with the subject matter. Also, if they've never worked with water colors, for example, you want to be a water colorist then you would want to view their work. If I were asked if I know how to water color I would say yes. But it's not in the traditional sense. I use watercolor as a layer in my paintings not as final piece.
