About Hans

I was a full time teacher for 4 years, and still substitute for public schools in my area.

B.A. In Education from Linfield College. Over a decade of working with a variety of cameras.

About the lesson

Find out what kind of photos they want to be able to take, find out what gear they have, and help them learn how to use their gear most effectively.

anywhere from 10 years old to 50 years old, in large group setting to one on one sessions.

Find out if they are knowledgeable with your brand of camera. It doesn’t need to be the exact model, but see if they have experience with Th same brand (Nikon, Sony, Canon, etc.). After asking that, find out if they are knowledgeable and have taken the type of photos that you are interested in taking as well.

Ive been doing a lot of wedding and family portraits and real estate, but what got me started originally was nature photography. This past spring I got to go to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival, and focus on taking the photos that I wanted to take, and not what I had been hired to take. I’ve been so busy that I still haven’t had time to finish editing them, but it’s been fun to go back and look at them again during the editing process.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What do you really want to learn to take photos of. Is it for quick pictures of your kids, is it for a holiday to Yosemite and wanting to know the settings for nature photos, is for your own business? Also, how much post-editing work would you be planning to do with the photos, and any printing of photos? Make sure you explain that aspect to the teacher as well, as that can almost take more time and be more challenging than taking the image itself.
