About Allan

I have been a professional photographer for 30 years, worked all over the world, photographed President Carter and Clinton and hundreds of corporate CEO's and executives and celebrities. I have also worked extensively in black and white medium, doing a dozen or more art exhibits of my work of both people and landscapes. I have been featured in Photo District News and in Communications Arts magazines.

Meeting people and traveling. i really enjoy helping people go beyond the typical smart phone photography and explore more interesting ways to shoot on both the phone and on SLR.

i have not done a ton of formal teaching, mostly through word of mouth. Helping folks who were really passionate about photography.

I have trained a least a dozen assistants, most who have gone on to successful careers in the photo world. I have also worked with ex cons in New York City to expore their hidden talents and produce a show in midtown that had a huge attention and was covered by NPR radio.

About the lesson

I like to review their current work and find out what they woudl like to learn and where their passion lies. Then we can do a deeper dive into more information and excercises to help each student maximize their photo potential.

All types from raw beginners to experienced photographers wanted to learn more about all aspects of lighting.

Find someone who is patient and can really help you with composition. That is the first key to making great photographs.

I volunteered at a local Christian center in Park City, Utah to help cook and serve dinner to foreign workers, who work in the hospitality industry here. I took a bunch of pictures of the the group, mostly from Latin America. We ending the night singing Karaoke.

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Students should really try and discover where their passion lies. Everything will grow from that passion.
