About Amy

I started photography back in film days and made the transition to digital in the early 2000s. Since 2013, I've been photograping children and families and loving every minute of it. I've also been teaching others, from beginning photographers to those who are in business, all aspects of photography from camera skills to lighting to editing to business acumen. My goal is to make it much eaier for others to learn and access information than it was for me when I was learning!

I'm a published photographer and a Canon shooter though I am also very familiar with Nikon and Sony. Whether you want to photograph people, pets, or landscapes, I can help you get the photos you really want.

I actually initially went to college to be a teacher but decided teaching as an overall career was not for me.  From a photogrpahy perspective, I got started teaching initially online when I started mentoring and teaching people I met in photography forums and Facebook groups.  I found that there was a ton of incorrect information out there and it was precluding people from learning.  I helped on a one on one basis to start then started my own teaching and mentoring program where I did both groups and individual, in person and online.

I was taught to shoot by my father 36 years ago when film photography was a thing.  I took art classes in high school and college relating to film photography then carried those concepts over to digital when I switched in the early 2000s.  Since then I've spent hundreds of hours on continuing education, both in person and online, improving my skills in all facets of photography.

When I'm first contacted by a student, I consult with them to understand where they are in their learning process and what their immediate and long term goals are.  If they are struggling with something in particular, I'll ask to see examples of work they are not happy with so that I can understand the reasons behind the issues they're having and can start from there.  I'll also ask what gear they are using.  From there we will move onto the lesson.  I'm very into hands-on lessons and bring my own gear and also work with the student with theirs so that we can work together and practice what it is that they are teaching.

Beginners to advanced, and across a wide age range, from elementary school to elderly students.  I've worked with students both in person and online.

Look at the photographer's work.  That should speak for itself.

Every time I work with a student, there is a "light bulb" moment and it makes me so happy when students are happy that they're learning.  Most recently, I helped a student to get her images in sharp focus when she'd been struggling with tht for some time.  She was so happy that she finally got it that she cried...and so did I!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
What their short term and long term goals are, and what time range they are wanting to achieve them in.  Also, they should consider if they want to continue working with the gear they currently have or if they're open to suggestions for purchasing additional gear (a new lens, lighting, etc) based on what they're wanting to achieve and possible limitations of their current gear.
