About Crystal

I have resources that allow nearly any student make the progress they are looking for. First and foremost, I try to understand the type of person my client is. Communication is key, which I try to strive for from the beginning. Once I understand someone's musical style, personality, and cognitive behavior, I pool all my methods and resources in providing what they need. I try to incorporate methods that students of any age can understand easily and be able to achieve satisfactorily. I provide an endless amount of music repertoire that the student will love.

I love interacting with students of various personalities and age groups!

I have been professionally trained at a music school in piano, voice, and piano pedagogy. In addition, I am always going to the latest pedagogical conferences either locally or nationally. I am very active with the Piano Teacher's Congress in New York and the New York Music Teacher's Association which allow various events for students to take part.

About the lesson

For each student I provide methods so that my students have basics for piano playing and music learning. I usually tailor each student to their learning styles and abilities. I usually start with songs from a method book I usually use, which consists of many songs that even a beginner would be familiar with. I also will supplement with some small exercises as well.

I have worked with ages 4 to adult at various levels from beginner to advanced throughout the 15 years I have taught. A majority of my students are beginners to immediate levels, with some advanced level students. I have taken a some students to professional level where they have pursued music in college.

When hiring a teacher, make sure one is willing to work with the skill level, age, and musical style he or she can provide. Sometimes a teacher from very prestigious backgrounds are usually more comfortable with dealing with intermediate and/or advanced students and may not be so sensitive and understanding to the needs of a beginner and/or an early intermediate student. At the same time, a teacher should have a certain level of professional musical training that allows he or she to understand the craft of the instrument and teaching, such as obtaining a music degree and/or performing in well known places.
